Meet NEOS was an exciting event held in Zürich on 30th November 2015. PIT Solutions was represented by Thomaskutty Sebastian and Gabriele Lorini. The idea of the event was to create awareness of NEOS – the cool and upcoming open source CMS. For beginners, think of NEOS as an open source Content Management System based on its own PHP framework called Flow. More details on NEOS and Flow can be found under https://www.neos.io and http://flow.typo3.org

NEOS is a CMS that is easily extendable to your needs. It features very intuitive and user friendly front end editing which clearly differentiates it from many other content management systems in the market. Other selling points of NEOS are its preview central feature, Responsive friendliness, Cloud readiness, Semantic SEO and many more.

The event kick-started with a nice coffee and breakfast followed by introduction talk by Stefan Bruggmann & Sven Ditz. The interesting part was the speech done by Robert Lemke, the founder of NEOS. After deeper insight on NEOS and its capabilities, it was time for Christian Müller to give us an overview on how agile teams are structured to develop NEOS further. Our goal was to get some idea about NEOS and whether this CMS could be offered to our clients. Just after the first talk by Mr.Lemke, we were convinced that some of our clients would be very happy to have such a powerful and flexible CMS for their project.

Before lunch, there were various case study presentations which showed the power and versatility of NEOS. Then it was time for lunch. After quick lunch, all were up for next set of presentations in the afternoon. We were even more excited to hear that NEOS can be used for bigger projects as well. There were case studies like EIZO Relaunch project – Content & Product Repository, architectes.ch – More than 100’000 nodes, 3’200 pages, 28’000 photographies and then a Multi-Site for a hotel chain. All were interesting case studies to engage the crowd and keep them awake during early afternoon.

After a coffee break, there was the best part where Robert Lemke talked about the future of NEOS. We all were skeptical about the future of NEOS after split from TYPO3. But with the planning and experience of the NEOS founders in Open Source Projects, we were convinced that the momentum will keep on going and NEOS will evolve into a great product in coming months. The event ended with a nice Apero, where we could drink some wine and beer and share our thoughts with people behind NEOS and especially with Robert Lemke.

We ended the day with a feeling that it was a day worth spending on something new and exciting. PITS will do its best efforts to push NEOS and be the part of this exciting technical journey.
