clipser.com

clipser.com is a video sharing website competing with the likes of YouTube and Google Videos.  It was launched in 2006 when the video uploading and sharing concepts had started to catch on among the Internet audience worldwide.

The main challenge was to build a system that would support huge amounts of data – video files are bandwidth-intensive. Another challenge was that the users would be from every conceivable corner of the world, which meant a 24/7/365 availability and the associated manned maintenance. These challenges were overcome through farsighted planning and systematic execution by a dedicated PIT Solutions team.

With more than 1,000,000 unique users as of December 2008, it continues to grow at an exponential rate. Uploading, viewing, and sharing videos remain the core features of clipser as with any other video-sharing website. But the huge number of other unique and attractive features makes it stand out from the rest. Some of these are:

  • Provision for posting videos to social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace
  • Search keywords can be selected from a place- based listing box.
  • A flash based display which shows the currently watched videos.
  • A featured video in the home page which can be played there and which is selected on a random basis
  • Multiple methods to filter videos according to different criteria like Most Viewed, Most Commented, etc, and on the basis of time like Today, This Week, This Month, All Time, etc.
  • Multi language support: The site currently supports 15 languages and the language options are growing
  • Internal mailing system and numerous other methods for users to interact and share videos and comments
  • Playlist and jukebox options for maximum flexibility to the user.

The most attractive feature of clipser is perhaps the earning opportunity – users gain clipser dollars for every action on the website and redeem actual dollars later on. Tracking user activities and their earnings was the most challenging aspect to implement, considering the numerous features and actions possible in the website for every user.
