Overview
Drukblitz is an ecommerce website developed in a PHP-based CMS namely, Magento.
The overall objective was to develop a successful website in Magento which would enable users to purchase products along with uploading files of the products purchased. Following this, the payment procedures would be carried out with the help of an invoice and an ESR slip.
Key Challenges
Design & Functionality
Integrating a design, entirely different from the normal Magento structure was one of the primary challenges encountered. Besides, the client wanted to adapt to an easy method completely different from the existing Magento methods, to add the configurable products. Finally, prices and tier prices had to be configured for products and product attributes.
User Interface
Complex functionalities in the areas of product navigation and mouse over features had to be brought into Magento.
Database
Magento possessed a completely different database structure which consisted of more than 200 tables. So a considerable time was allotted for its study.
Other
Magento, being released in 2008, lacked proper documentations or forums for support.
Requirement Changes
Change in the pricing and calculation logic was an important requirement change demanded by the client. However, they agreed to implement this as a change request.
Solution
Initially, a major portion of the resources were allocated to the system study phase since we were new to the database structure and the methods of Magento. Later on, with immense effort and great team work, the desired milestones were achieved and the developed website contained an entire shopping cart in 2 pages. Furthermore we were able to adapt to a method, easier in both execution and implementation than the one suggested by the client, to add the configurable products. This followed customization of the existing core modules in Magento. Lastly, the ESR slip generation functionality during order processing or editing orders was implemented from the backend.
Client Feedback/Gains
Despite certain issues which hindered our on-time completion of the project, the client is so far impressed with our deliveries and communication. At present, they are in the process of entering products into the website.
